NEW STUDY JUST OUT (quoted from Washington Post)
“The Global Burden of Disease Study published Thursday is the most detailed look at health on the population level ever attempted”. The study took two points in time 1990 and 2010, and shows a trajectory of where the world’s health may be headed. So the study shows that yes, we are living longer and the consequence is that “more people are surviving, to die of diseases that occur only in old age.” People are living with conditions that don’t kill them but drastically affect their health. Conditions such as mental disorders, substance abuse, musculoskeletal pain (“back pain now causes more disability than childbirth complications or anemia”), vision loss, and hearing loss.
